Jake Drake On: Vietnam

"Hey all I have been really diggin' this band VietNam for a good bit, some of you know I don't stop talking about them. They are from Brooklyn & are a kind of Velvet Underground/Bob Dylan/blues mish-mash of low-fi grooves. I listened to the record all weekend and I'm a better man for it today."

Thoughts On: Babyshambles--The Blinding (EP)

Pete finally seems to be back on track. These songs, particularly "Beg, Steal, or Borrow," have the charm of the original Babyshambles sessions. The vocals are fuller and the guitar work more melodic, making the rough "Down in Albion" a distant memory. Signs are looking good for the second album.

Verdict: 8 out of 10

Liam "Now Magazine" Interview

Here's a preview:

Has being a dad calmed you down?

I suppose so, but not too much. I don't go out as much as I used to because I'm in with my kids and missus and get a buzz off them. But when I do go out I still have a f***ing good time. We don't go out and say: 'Hey, man, we're dads so we're gonna take it easy!' We still go boozing for a couple of days, drink f***ing anything - Guinness, larger, champagne, wine, sambuca - and get high, get plastered. But we're not out on the piss all the time, like we used to be, because there are little people involved now.

What do you think of All Saints reuniting?

I think it's cool. They've just done an album and it sounds great. I was a fan of them before because they were the coolest girl band around. They weren't like all the other girl bands, with their arms around each other, saying: 'Ooh, we love each other', when it was obvious they didn't. They told it like it was - one of you's a c*** and the other one's a bitch! It was refreshing and that's what makes them different.

Do you have any regrets?

Not really. I'd do it all the f***ing same. I've got two beautiful kids, I've got f***ing money in the bank, I've got a nice house, got a nice missus, my mum and brothers are f***ing happy... It could be worse couldn't it? Even the ex-missus if f***ing coming around, so life's good.

Jez Has A New Book

Former Swervedriver drummer and Glamorama contributor Jez has a new book, entitled "Rider." It's described as "an autobiographical look at life on the road with a rock band. A collection of thoughts, observations & experiences - funny, tragic, poignant or just plain ludicrous - by an author who was a touring musician in the 1990s." Should be a good read.

Thoughts On
Exile on Main St: A Season in Hell With The Rolling Stones, by Robert Greenfield

You know you're in trouble when the cover of a book is cooler than the book itself. Act one of Mr Greenfield's book provides an interesting back story for the making of "Exile," detailing the level of heroin use and the bizarre love triangle of Mick, Keith, and Anita Pallenberg. It's a nice complement to Bill Janovitz's book for the 33 1/3 series, which is a brilliant song-by-song musical analysis of the album.

Act two, however, is pointless. And the lengthy epilogue is absolutely ridiculous. The last thing anyone needs is a detailed history of the Stones' recent corporate sponsorship. Oh, and the author claims not once but twice that "Jumpin Jack Flash" is on "Sticky Fingers"--an unforgivable error for anyone wanting to be seen as a Stones insider.

Verdict: Read Act One at Borders or wait for the paperback.

Oasis: Lord Don't Slow Me Down (New Mp3)

[On Savefile]

Film Trailer:

"From Hard Drugs to Soft Cheese"

Guardian Article on Blur's Alex James:
"The fact that Alex James has retreated to a farm in the Cotswolds to make cheese is either the most surprising turn-up for the books ever, or a predictable twist in the narrative of the modern celebrity. Formerly the most debauched member of the 1990s Brit Pop set, Alex James pursued a fast and definitively urban lifestyle for a decade. He was famous (the bass player for Blur), very rich, young and pretty, which facilitated all manner of bad behaviour. Women, private-members' clubs, booze and drugs, a rumoured tendency to do things like sleep under the snooker table of London's Groucho Club ... (Did he really do that? 'Yeah! For about a week! Hee hee!')"

Unfortunately, good intentions do not a good album make. While Josh deserves credit for trying to expand his palette, the results are less than convincing. Oh well, we'll always have "High Noon".
